About

About Our Program

Port Gamble S'Klallam Places Program is a K-3 educational program with a S'Klallam cultural and outdoors learning focus. We believe learning should reflect the indigenous learning styles of the people who have inhabited this land since time immemorial. Our program provides a nurturing environment where students can connect with nature, learn from the wisdom of our ancestors, and develop a deep understanding of the world around them.

Cultural Curriculum Offered

At Port Gamble S'Klallam Places Program, we offer a holistic cultural and academic curriculum that integrates S'Klallam cultural teachings, state standards, and outdoor education. Our students learn from culturally developed curriculum in language, science, arts, and history. We also believe in traditional community centered learning; safe tribal knowledge keepers are welcomed into class to foster traditional knowledge.

What Our Community Says

So thankful for the traditional teachings Hannah Jones and Serene George are instilling in my youngest. I love hearing all about her PGST outdoor learning classes and what they were taught during their 2 hours. This week "L" has been learning the differences in species of clams, native and invasive to our area. And today they made beautiful clam shell wind chimes. My heart just beams when she never wants to let them go.
